Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Past Perfect Continuous Tense: -

It is used to show that an action started in the past and continued up to another point in the past.

  Structure: S + HV1 + HV2 + MV + SINCE/FOR + Time

 

Point to be noticed:

•  In this tense the main verb is used in Present Participle form (v4).

•  ‘Had been’ is used as a helping verb with all subjects.

•  Since – Point of time

•  For– Period of time

•  At the end of Hindi sentence we find (से रहा था, से रही थी, से रहे थे)

 

Sentence Structures :

·         Positive Statement Structure

        S + HV1 + HV2 +MV + SINCE/FOR + TIME.

              He had been living there since 1990.

                       वह वहाँ 1990 से रह रहा था |

                      

·         Negative Statement Structure

        S + HV1 + NOT + HV2 + MV + SINCE/FOR + TIME.

        Kumbhkaran had not been sleeping for six months.

                    कुम्भकरण छः महीने से नहीं सो रहा था |

·         Positive Question Structure

                HV1 + S + HV2 + MV + SINCE/FOR + TIME?

                 Had he been playing PUBG since 2018?

                   क्या वह पबजी  2018  से खेल रहा था ?

 

·         Negative Question Structure

     HV1 + S + NOT + HV2 + MV + SINCE/FOR + TIME?

      Had you not been preparing for interview since last year?

  क्या तुम पिछ्ले साल से interview  की तयारी नहीं कर रहे थे ?

 

 

·         Positive Question with Question Word Structure

                                             Type -1

 WH word + HV1 + S + HV2 + MV + SINCE/FOR + TIME +?

Why had you been working here for two years?

                           तुम यहाँ 2 साल से काम क्यो कर रहे थे ?

 

                                                Type -2

                   SINCE /WHEN + HV1 + S + HV2 + MV +?

                    Since when had she been coming here?

                              वह यहाँ कब से आ रही थी ?

 

                                              Type -3

                         FOR HOW LONG + HV2 + MV +?

          For how long had they been running this business?

                          वे कब से इस व्यापार को कर रहे हैं?

 

·         Negative Question with Question Word Structure

                                            Type -1

WH WORD + HV1 + NOT + HV2 + MV + FOR/SINCE + TIME?

 Why had you not been taking your salary for three years?

                 तुम 3 साल से अपनी तनख्वा क्यो नहीं ले रहे थे ?

 

                                        Type -2

               SINCE/WHEN + HV1 + NOT + HV2 + MV?

          Since when had your brother not paid the bill?

                        आपका भाई कब से बिल नहीं दे रहा था ?

 

                                           Type -3

FOR HOW LONG + HV1 + S + NOT + HV2 + MV?

For how long had your mother not been learning English?

              आपकी मम्मी कितने समय से अंग्रेजी नहीं सीख रही थी ?
