Verbs might confuse you
The word “cry” is used when somebody's tears come out of their eyes & the sound is loud. (Babies use to cry, do not weep.)
Weep is used when somebody cries but silently.
'Weep' is related to reasons of grief and sadness; it is associated with extreme emotion.
Whet -sharpen the blade by rubbing on a piece of stone (called whetstone) for sharpening.
Sharpen - to make sharp.
However, whet is also used instead of sharpening.
USAGE
Right - The book will whet your appetite for more of her work.
Wrong - The book will sharpen your appetite for more of her work.
Wink is a facial expression made up of closing one eye and keeping another eye open.
e.g., "You know", she said with a wink.
“तुम्हें पता है”, उसने पलक झपकते कहा |
Blinking is an involuntary movement of eyelids. In a blink, both eyes close & open quickly.
e.g., In a blink, he travelled there.
पलक झपकते ही, उन्होंने वहाँ की यात्रा की |
Some Important Terminology
Withstand is to resist or endure (something) successfully.
e.g., This fabric can withstand steam and high temperatures.
यह कपड़ा भाप और उच्च तापमान का सामना कर सकता है ।
Wend, "to direct or to proceed”.
e.g., My hand wended around her waist as I held her hand & we began to dance.
मेरा हाथ उसकी कमर के चारों ओर घूम गया, मैंने उसका हाथ पकड़ा और हम नाचने लगे थे |
